I forgot to tell you! I watched my first episode of Classic!Who the other day! I watched Horror of Fang Rock, a Four/Leela episode. There were a couple things that stood out to me that I'd like to share:

The MOMENT the TARDIS materialized, a smile split onto my face.

Lighthouse dude: Are you in charge here?
Doctor: No, but I'm full of ideas.

Doctor: Gentlemen, I have news for you: This lighthouse is under attack and by morning we might all be dead.  [huge smile]
WOW, time after time I'm seeing 11 in 4. ...or should I say 4 in 11? Gah. This is confusing.

I noticed that a lot of the humor was very subtle. Like, one joke that I managed to catch was after Leela broke a panel of a door with a sledge hammer to see what the possessed lighthouse man was up to:
Doctor: The Malicious Act of Damage covers lighthouses.
Leela: What?
Doctor: Nothing.

And then a throw back:
Doctor: Leela, don't fire until you see the green of his tentacles

Dude, Tom Baker's eyes are flippin' wide and crazy. Matches his smile.

I loved, and I mean LOVED the Rutan's cheesy alien blobiness. It was priceless, which I suppose is a good thing considering the Beeb's budget back then. waap, waaaaap.

I liked Leela. Had a very go-get-'em style about her, which I suppose has something to do with her history that my dad and tardis.wikia.com informed me about. What the internet did not tell me and that my Dad so kindly told me was that Leela was a fan favorite. "Pretty young woman running around in a leather bikini? Oh yeah."

All in all, I enjoyed the episode, though not nearly as much as I enjoy some of the Nu!Who episodes, particularly S5. Does anyone have any recommendations? Or think I should have seen a different episode as my introduction to Classic!Who? Send me your thoughts!

LOL HELLLLOOOOO

Six is hard because, well, most of his tv serials are crappy (I love them anyway!). "Vengeance on Varos" and "Revelation of the Daleks" are probably the best. Both are kind of emotionally dismal, though. "The Two Doctors" is fun, but best watched after you've seen a bit of Two.

Seconding the rec for "Curse of Fenric". It works better if you've watched the rest of Ace's arc, but even on its own it's fantastic - it's got Themes and pretty great monster costumes and Ace being a bamf in a snood.

HMMM. Others, uh, "The Dalek Invasion of Earth" is my fave 1st Doctor, but I haven't seen much of him. "Tomb of the Cyberman" is a good Two story to kick off with ("The Mind Robber" is my favorite but it's cray-cray); I'm in the middle of "The Invasion", which is an animated reconstruction and actually really neatly done. Three's serials tend towards the endless, maybe go for one of the shorter ones? "Spearhead From Space" is his first episode and is pretty banging, iirc. Four, "City of Death", ugh FOREVER. If you are interested in more Leela, "The Robots of Death" is a good one. Fiiiiiive, hmm. "Mawdryn Undead", maybe? It's got timey-wimey and crazy noodle brained dudes and Turlough, who is sassy and ginger.

I knew you'd turn up! :D:D

Oooh, thanks for all the rec's! I'm going to be busy in the next few months with all of these... I liked Leela but I really want to see other companions, particularly ones referenced in Nu!Who (& spin offs), like Jo Grant and Sarah Jane.

Thanks again!
