Horror of Fang Rock
The MOMENT the TARDIS materialized, a smile split onto my face.
Lighthouse dude: Are you in charge here?
Doctor: No, but I'm full of ideas.
Doctor: Gentlemen, I have news for you: This lighthouse is under attack and by morning we might all be dead. [huge smile]
WOW, time after time I'm seeing 11 in 4. ...or should I say 4 in 11? Gah. This is confusing.
I noticed that a lot of the humor was very subtle. Like, one joke that I managed to catch was after Leela broke a panel of a door with a sledge hammer to see what the possessed lighthouse man was up to:
Doctor: The Malicious Act of Damage covers lighthouses.
Leela: What?
Doctor: Nothing.
And then a throw back:
Doctor: Leela, don't fire until you see the green of his tentacles
I loved, and I mean LOVED the Rutan's cheesy alien blobiness. It was priceless, which I suppose is a good thing considering the Beeb's budget back then. waap, waaaaap.
I liked Leela. Had a very go-get-'em style about her, which I suppose has something to do with her history that my dad and tardis.wikia.com informed me about. What the internet did not tell me and that my Dad so kindly told me was that Leela was a fan favorite. "Pretty young woman running around in a leather bikini? Oh yeah."
All in all, I enjoyed the episode, though not nearly as much as I enjoy some of the Nu!Who episodes, particularly S5. Does anyone have any recommendations? Or think I should have seen a different episode as my introduction to Classic!Who? Send me your thoughts!

It's hilarious, it's clever, it has Four and Romana being adorable, and you'll immediately notice how much Moffat references it.

Six is hard because, well, most of his tv serials are crappy (I love them anyway!). "Vengeance on Varos" and "Revelation of the Daleks" are probably the best. Both are kind of emotionally dismal, though. "The Two Doctors" is fun, but best watched after you've seen a bit of Two.
Seconding the rec for "Curse of Fenric". It works better if you've watched the rest of Ace's arc, but even on its own it's fantastic - it's got Themes and pretty great monster costumes and Ace being a bamf in a snood.
HMMM. Others, uh, "The Dalek Invasion of Earth" is my fave 1st Doctor, but I haven't seen much of him. "Tomb of the Cyberman" is a good Two story to kick off with ("The Mind Robber" is my favorite but it's cray-cray); I'm in the middle of "The Invasion", which is an animated reconstruction and actually really neatly done. Three's serials tend towards the endless, maybe go for one of the shorter ones? "Spearhead From Space" is his first episode and is pretty banging, iirc. Four, "City of Death", ugh FOREVER. If you are interested in more Leela, "The Robots of Death" is a good one. Fiiiiiive, hmm. "Mawdryn Undead", maybe? It's got timey-wimey and crazy noodle brained dudes and Turlough, who is sassy and ginger.

Oooh, thanks for all the rec's! I'm going to be busy in the next few months with all of these... I liked Leela but I really want to see other companions, particularly ones referenced in Nu!Who (& spin offs), like Jo Grant and Sarah Jane.
Thanks again!

XD That may be the only classic who that I've watched! I think I tried to watch something...it was with Four & Romana and they went to Paris. I got like 30 minutes in and got bored. (damn my attention span).
But the Three Doctors is pretty funny. the Second Doctor wears a bowtie, so you know it's cool. ;D

I've seen a few eps from each Doctor, and I keep seeing all of them in Eleven. It's so cool.

I haven't read any of the comics, but from the previews I've seen they look decent enough! I'm sure I've seen a bit of someone's manga style comic with Ten, but I'm not sure if that was fanart or an actual comic. XD It was beautiful anyway!

Speaking of manga style Doctor Who comics, have you seen this?: http://carrots-areyouinsane.tumblr.com/post/3865670683/wifeofbath-love-this-presentation-of-new-whos

If you're finding cheap cheesy blobby aliens to be endearing and not off-putting, too, then basically there's nothing standing between you and all of the goodness of Classic Who, as far as I can tell...

Does anyone have any recommendations?
Like everyone else says, City of Death. It has Romana and lols and France and the Mona Lisa. I would say anything with Romana but a lot of her stories, erm, look very cheap. But they are lulsy to make up for it, mostly.
Leela's intro story Face of Evil is quite good if you like her.
I love Seven'n'Ace best so I must say Survival and Curse of Fenric and Ghost Light although that last one takes more a bit attention than the others I find. They work better if you've seen Ace's arc unfold, but they are pretty awesomecakes anyway.
Revelation of the Daleks for Six, probably you want a Master story for Three but then I love Delgado!Master more than I love Three and wish to be his evil companion of evilness.
If you're willing to go black & white then maybe The Mind Robber or Edge of Destruction which is short?

Thank you SO much for all the rec's! I definitely have to check out City of Death. I've heard so much about Romana, it'd be interesting to see if I like her as much as everyone else. :) As for B&W, I grew up in the age of personal calculators so I think it'll take some warming up to get to that point. But in time, m'dear, in time.
"What a wonderful butler, he's so violent!"
PS: Eleventy is hawt in your icon there, rawr.

You know... I always thought that in musicals when a man and a woman had a duet, it was musical for, "We're totes doin it right nao lol".
The icon keyword for this one is GUH MATT SMITH. Self-explanatory.
