I've been on a kick recently, haven't I? Well. To sort of defend myself, after watching 42 (which was bloody brilliant), I was too pumped to not watch a second. And that one ended in a cliff hanger and I couldn't very well just leave it at that! So... three episodes last night. Another three tonight? ...Maybe. But before I do that, I must reflect on these three.

42

First scene: Doctor sonics Martha's phone... just like Rose's... I wonder why 11 hasn't done anything like that? Then again, Martha and Rose tended to keep in touch with their Mums more than Amy does. Then in this scene, the TARDIS is going haywire from a distress signal locking onto it, and there's this brilliant clip of the Doctor with his foot on the TARDIS:

It amused me. :)

I found this episode to be very nerve-wracking. Martha's responses to her Mom nagging her, the creepy dudes possessed by the sun flares following others, Martha and the dude flying closer to the sun in the escape pod... There was a lot of whinning and flailing of hands over on the this side of the pond. I don't do well with these sort of situations. But I still enjoyed the epsiode. :)

Also, can I just say that possibly the most painful thing to watch was Ten being slowly taken over by the alien sun flair? Particularly when he said he was scared. It was a general, "HOLYSHITYOURETHEDOCTORYOUCANTBESCARED" sort of reaction from me. I think at one point I actually had to pause the episode to calm down a little bit. I even have a note that says in scribbled hand writing (probably didn't want to look away from the screen), "I hate the suspense!!"

Tbh, I was kind of hoping one of the characters in the episode would finally figure out how to save the day, without the Doctor, without Martha. But alas, it's not called "Doctor Who" because it's focusing on the little guys.

Yeah, Martha puckering it up! And I was seriously pissed by Mr. Grumpy Face here. I mean, seriously?:

Sorry to break it to you, buddy, but you had your chance. Unless you're grumpy about not smooching it up with Rose. ...but again, you had your chance. hahaha Funny how I go back and forth with Ten. I love him to bits one moment but when he gets all angsty, it's tough love from me. But he makes it up by giving Martha a key to the TARDIS at the end. ...which is another thing Eleven hasn't done. Interesting... maybe these sonicked-mobiles and keys were an RTD thing? I don't know Old!Who enough to know if handing out keys happened in the past.

Human Nature

Um. I love it when the Doctor is human. I don't know why, but I was all squeely through-out this whole episode. Definitely made up for the suspense I had to endure in the last hour. The Doctor even had a different accent. As a matter of fact, everyone sounded a bit more proper in this episode. I know it was because of the time period but the American in me was sniggering at some of the phrases. Can't pinpoint them now, just know that I think you Brits are adorable.

That racist comment made to Martha when she's scrubbing the floors... One of the school boys asked her how she could tell what she was cleaning was clean because of the color of her hands. I was just sort of like, "...damn."

The bit with Nurse Joan and John Smith talking about the dance with the flyer and then John Smith falling down the steps-- awkwardly adorable. hahah

The actor who plays the psychic boy... he looks familiar. What else has he been in? I want to say Nanny McPhee...?

Aw, the Doctor can draw! And answers the question "Where did you learn to draw" without hesitation: "Gallifrey." N'aww. You're still the Doctor. Then he draws the nurse... even more adorable. AND EVEN MORE ADORABLE (and slightly sexy), he kissed her!!!

Then Martha interrupts, runs out of the room and says, "You had to do that. Had to go and fall in love with a human... And it wasn't me." :(:(:(:(

And then Ten is slapped yet again! This time by Martha! At least it was for a some-what better reason than just because the slapper disagreed with him. hahah

The Family of Blood

This episode I was not as impressed with. I did love the one school boy as "Son of mine" or whatever he would be called... his character was pretty awesome. haha But John Smith was a bit too dramatic in here... and the ending was a bit too dramatic as well... but I guess I'll get to that.

First off, how did the aliens move the TARDIS? I suppose the scarecrows could have pushed it.... though I just don't see that happening. Think of the scruff marks!

As John Smith is struggling over his Time Lordy self or his human self, Martha says to John Smith about the Doctor, "I love him to bits. And I hope to God he doesn't remember me saying this." hahahaaawww... At first I felt bad over this angsting John Smith. He truly seemed torn. But as this torn-ness kept dragging on, I was sort of like, "Okay..." I think I was starting to see some of the critiques of David Tennant's acting. Though to be fair, some of this part was bad due to the writing. I just felt like it dragged on.

Needless to say, I was happy when the Doctor came back. And it was done in a great way. He ended up on the alien ship, pretending to be John Smith, being a clutz and falling all over himself and flipping switches on the wall, trying to catch himself. Then, as the aliens realize that the watch he's just given them has no Time Lord in there, the Doctor straightens up with his nerdy specs on. And I squeeled.

I was a bit confused... with the school boy-alien was talking about how each of the family members living forever, was this really what happened to him? Or was he saying in a hypothetical situation if they HAD lived forever?

The scene were the Doctor invited Joan to come along... that was awkward. I just shifted in my seat uncomfortably. Then she asked him if he had never come along, if everyone who had died would still be alive. The Doctor being the Doctor doesn't answer. She says, "You can go." Dayaaaamn!

And then the rain at the end. How fitting. And then the flash forward to the blond psychic boy fighting in WWI. And flash forward again to a Remembrance Day celebration with the blond psychic boy an old man in a wheel chair with metals. A bit over the top? Me thinks so.
