Getting Schooled

Some of you may already know that I have only seen the latest season of Doctor Who with the Eleventh Doctor. I've done a bunch of research on Doctor Who and have a pretty good grasp on its history but have only seen a handful of episodes here and there from BBC American reruns or the stray episode from an seedy back alley website.
My mother, for a good many years now, has consistently watched TV on Saturdays for one hour. It's about the only time she does watch TV. She did Star Trek, Rome, and Farscape. Just as she was wrapping up with Farscape, my Dad suggested that the next series they tackle was NuWho. And so now she's started, two Saturdays ago with Rose. Which means I've started, as well.
Yesterday was The End of the World which I have only seen bits of before. I feel it was a much better episode than the first one. I thought the mannequins were lame (don't hate me!). hahaha Rose had some shining moments in there, particularly at the end where she was grieving how this beautiful planet, her planet, was being blown to smithereens and no one was watching. Then the Doctor losing his temper when she was pushing him on who he was, where he was from... I felt like it was giving you a good look at who this Doctor was and what to expect.
I'm going to take the episodes slowly, one week at a time like Mom is, even though that's going to be a huge effort. Something's gotta keep me going through this absence of Doctor Who, right? : )

Excellent! More Who is definitely good. Watching it once a week, old-school style, is a good idea too.

The mannequins *were* a bit on the lame side but then again they were a call-back to classic Who, which sort of helped with the setting out the stall of what they're doing.

Wait till you get to Jack. Best. Companion. Ever.
And Martha. Martha is awesome too.
Honestly, Rose can get stuck in her little... actually, no, spoilers.
Anways, no spoilers, just look forward to Captain Jack Harkness' first appearnce in The Empty Child and Martha Jones' first appearance (technically in Doomsday but that was her cousin, Adeola) in Smith and Jones.

I totally get your "taking it one week at a time" thing, though I failed at that. "Rose" first, I thought and then had a Doctor Who overload in one Sunday. Gosh. It is possible to have a Doctor Who overload. Hard, but possible.

One thing, for Season One, because you are watching Season One with Christoper Eccleston and Billie Piper, right?
Watch out for Bad Wolf throughout the season. It'll just appear like "the cracks in time and space" did in Season Five.

(BTW, my icon is of Jack and Martha -squee-)

Enjoy your Who Fest and sorry for the essay :D

Oh, you're not a bad fan for looking things up and reading before watching. ;) When I read books, I always flip to the end to see if certain characters stay alive until then...and then I can go to the beginning and enjoy the trip. :P

Watching slowly can be fun. I'm re-watching Series 5 with the hubby, right now...very, very slowly.
