Remembrance of the Daleks

After the suggestion of [livejournal.com profile] themuslimbarbie, I watched my first Seven serial, "Remembrance of the Daleks." I'm not sure how tickled I am with Seven, though I do really like Ace. Maybe it'll just take some time for me like him more. And now, recap:

What is the Seventh Doctor’s accent? He rolls his Rs but… Is he just being pretentious? Hahaha Also, I noticed that the music was a victim of the 80’s. Sad, but I suppose with the utterly quintessential 80's Ace, it's appropriate.

The Doctor nose  booped Ace... d’aw…

Ace taking on four Daleks—FUCK YEAH!!

First she loses her boombox, then her aluminum bat… wth.

So, uh, not sure if this is a British thing or a Doctor Who thing, but I have been pronouncing Omega completely different. The Doctor/Daleks/Whoever say Oo-mee-guh. I say Oh-may-guh. Just thought I'd throw that in there...

The Daleks look like they’re gonna fall apart any moment. Hahahaha

Did the Doctor leave his *calling card* on the Time Controler? hahaha Okay, maybe I lied, I do kind of like him. :D

Sergeant dude: “Ace, I didn’t know it was the Daleks. I was just doing Mr. Radcliff a favor.”
Ace: “Do me a favor and drown yourself.”
HAHAHA

Designated Pretty Lady: “Doctor, how do you do that?”
Doctor: “Do what?”
DPL: “How do you just rewire a piece of alien machinery?”
Doctor: “It’s easy when you have 900 years of experience.”
Aaaand enter the age debate. Sure, there's the catch-all answer of "the Doctor doesn't know how old he is", but Eleventy is so certain about his age and actually is consistent with it later... bah, forget it. There are other things I can get worked up over.

Darvos: “The Daleks! Shall! Become! lords of time! We! shall! Become! all—“
Doctor: “—Powerful! Crush the lesser races! Conquer the galaxy!  Unimaginable power! Unlimited rice pudding! Etcetera! Etcetera!”
HAHAHAHA Okay, I definitely lied, I really do like him. :D

Daaaaamn, Doctor!  Burn up Skaro! Blow up the Dalek mother ship! You’re so sexy when you’re cold hearted.

I just adore Ace she is just so fantastic. She and SJS are my favorites from classic Who. I didn't connect well with 7 and I am really not sure why but I did enjoy watching him.

Ahh yes the age debate, like you I will save it for another day when I am not as tired.

[identity profile] tasty-kate.livejournal.com 2011-10-18 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
Any Sarah Jane Smith episodes you would recommend me? :D And I think I get what you said about Seven--I like watching him enough, but... he's not... personable? enough. I don't even know. haha

[identity profile] flydye8.livejournal.com 2011-10-19 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Any of the SJS adventures are good to watch they are not as emotionally charged as DW but they are fun to watch. My daughter just loves them.

Of course my favorite is when the Doctor makes cameos both 10 and 11 have done that.

The one with ten is called "the wedding of SJS" I can't remember the name of the one that the 11th Doctor was in.

[identity profile] tasty-kate.livejournal.com 2011-10-19 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
The other was "Death of the Doctor", which I did get to see. Have any Classic Who episodes to rec? :D

[identity profile] flydye8.livejournal.com 2011-10-19 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I liked her best with the Third Doctor in classic who I would watch those if I had a choice she had really good chemistry with the Third more then the Forth.

The actor playing the man at the funeral parlor was in "Boom Town" (got killed pre-credits) plus he played Gwen's father in Torchwood.

This story was okay, but I think you get more out of it if you've seen "Unearthly Child" with all the nods.

[identity profile] tasty-kate.livejournal.com 2011-10-18 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh, nice little tid bit there! And you're right, I probably would have got more out of it if I saw "Unearthly Child." I tried watching it when I was *just* getting into Doctor Who and really couldn't put myself through anything longer than 15 minutes. >_< Maybe I'll be able to watch it some day.

I just noticed your icon and I love it can you tell me where you got such a gem.

See, the first time I watched Seven, in Dragonfire, I was kinda like "eh...what's up with you, dude?" but I think it's just because the new!Who Doctors are different, especially Ten and Eleven. But after the Dalek one I was like "okay, dude. I'm on board." But he is SUPER sketchy. Like, seriously. People are like "the Eleventh Doctor is so secretive and manipulative!" and I'm like "yeah, go watch Remembrance of the Daleks." I mean, the guy tricked them into BLOWING UP THEIR HOME PLANET.

And holy shit, do I love Ace. [livejournal.com profile] a_phoenixdragon was the one who suggested her to me. "Who you callin' small!?" Apparently she fights Cybermen later on.

Man, now I wanna go and watch some more Classic!Who. Well, I guess I know what I'm doing this weekend.

[identity profile] tasty-kate.livejournal.com 2011-10-18 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
HAHAHHA Dude, I noticed that with the Doctor being all super secretive. It reminded me of the letter my friend sent to me from England. She told me about this new show that she's enjoying and said, "...in the traditional British way they don't give many clues about what the heck is going on but it does make me come back every week!"

I think I'm gonna conquer the movie next. :D

[identity profile] themuslimbarbie.livejournal.com 2011-10-18 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
LMFAO. That's so Who, it's not even funny.

Oooh! Lemme know how that is. I think I'm gonna watch Seven and Ace's arcs (I really wanna write an Eleven/Ace fic) and then I might do the movie.

[identity profile] nostalgia-lj.livejournal.com 2011-10-18 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
AAAAAAACE! AND SEVEN! They are my favourites. Seven is right shady sometimes but always on the side of good and awesome.

[identity profile] tasty-kate.livejournal.com 2011-10-19 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
HAHA Yeah, he is down right shady, alright. It makes some of Eleventy's actions almost... justified? To be sort of, "HA! See? It's totally a Doctor move!" to the people who criticize Eleventy.

[identity profile] nostalgia-lj.livejournal.com 2011-10-19 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Eleventy is quite Seven at times. That is possibly why I love Eleventy so much.

Sylvester McCoy is Scottish but unlike David Tennant he doesn't hide the accent. I think it adds to the character.

Personally I pronounce it "Oh-meh-guh".

The Daleks being wobbly was actually the result of them having to give them bigger wheels in order to get them to roll over the cobblestones so they look like their drunk. To quote Sylvester from the DVD commentary, "Whee! I've been down the pub!"

I think the Doctor has been lying about his age for years, though the only times he specified an exact age was in Two's "The Tomb of the Cybermen" (one of my favorites) when he said he was 450 and in Seven's first story "Time and the Rani" where he said he was 953. Otherwise he's been 900 since he was Five. :)

[identity profile] radiantbaby.livejournal.com 2011-10-19 07:37 am (UTC)(link)
900 is 30 for Timelords. ;)

[identity profile] tasty-kate.livejournal.com 2011-10-19 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
900 is the new 1300! :p

[identity profile] tasty-kate.livejournal.com 2011-10-19 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahhh, I see. For some reason, I wasn't picking up on the Scottish-ness of his accent aside from the rolled R's, but that's being American for you... >_< hahaha

HAHAHA That's so funny with the DVD commentary. :D:D

Oooh, I wana check out "Tomb of the Cybermen" sometime in the future. :D:D Jamie is his companion, right?

[identity profile] gigs-83.livejournal.com 2011-10-19 02:07 pm (UTC)(link)
His real name is (get ready for this) Percy James Patrick Kent-Smith. He was born in Scotland but raised in Ireland. His mother was Irish and his father, who died a month before he was born, was English. Here's his Wiki article.

I love DVD commentaries, especially cast ones. I don't remember if you've seen Five's last episode "The Caves of Androzani" but Peter Davison and Nicola Bryant are in the commentary along with the director or someone and the comments he makes during the regeneration scene are HILARIOUS.

And yep, Jamie's the companion. And Victoria as well. It's also, I believe, the first appearance of the Cybermats.

[identity profile] tasty-kate.livejournal.com 2011-10-20 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
That is one heck of a name. hahaha Irish and English while raised in Scotland... O_o He's missing Wales. HAHA

I haven't seen any Peter Davison episodes but cannot wait until I get to him!! Though I think I'm going to tackle the movie and Eight next. :D

I LOVE THIS POST. It is ridic how glee I get an New Skool ppl watching classic and NOT HATING IT.

What is the Seventh Doctor’s accent? He rolls his Rs but… Is he just being pretentious?

SCOTTISH. And, yes, WE ROLL RS.

Also, I noticed that the music was a victim of the 80’s.

Ha! Trufax. THE WINNER OF THIS AWFUL COMP IS BATTLEFIELD THOUGH.

Someone upthread said you probs get more out of this ep if you've seen Unearthly Child, and also might get more if you've seen any of s7, since two of the guest characters in this are (very knowingly) Liz Shaw and Brigadier substitutes.

[identity profile] tasty-kate.livejournal.com 2011-10-19 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
If people can't love Classic!Who, clearly they're not true fans. It's all still the Doctor!

SCOTTISH. And, yes, WE ROLL RS.

HAHAHHA And I'm corrected! I knew Scots rolled their R's, but side from that little characteristic, it didn't sound terribly Scottish to me. Maybe I'm just being a dumb American. >_<

Ah, yes, I caught the reference to the Brigadier substitute when the Doctor accidentally called him "Brigadier", but I don't think I'm terribly familiar with Liz Shaw...

it didn't sound terribly Scottish to me

Ha! It never sounded particularly Scottish to me either until I found online fandom and then it was like "oh yeah, so it is." It never registered like that to me cause that mild a Scottish accent sounds pretty much neutral to me.

but I don't think I'm terribly familiar with Liz Shaw...

Season 7, with Three and UNIT. SHE IS AMAZING. She's a scientist UNIT nick from Cambridge to help out with alien invasion stuff.

[identity profile] tasty-kate.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
ME GUSTA. I must check out some Three goodness.

OMG, I LOVE SEVEN AND ACE (they are my faves from the classic series, trufax)!

Oh, and the pronunciation of 'Omega' is British. I think the way they say it is hella cute. It always reminds me a bit of a Valley Girl saying 'Like, oh meh gah!'. But then I'm weird.

Anyway, I hope you keep watching Seven/Ace. I think things get really amazing in their second/last season ('Curse of Fenric'!). :)

[identity profile] tasty-kate.livejournal.com 2011-10-19 01:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooohhh, loving your icon!! <3

Aw, glad I got to see some of your faves! And thanks for clearing up the pronunciation confusion.

It always reminds me a bit of a Valley Girl saying 'Like, oh meh gah!'.

HAHAHHAHA ADORABLE. I will now and forever think of that when I hear it.

Ooh, yes, I'll have to check out "Curse of Fenric"! Thanks for reccing it. :D
