Subtleties- G
I'm done for, aren't I?

“You've seen her-- she's a ten.”
“I've sort of fallen in love with Amy Pond” … “God, I think Karen puts so much of herself to the role as Amy.”
“I seduced you.”
“Question 2- How long have you had a crush on me?”
“Let me tell you, Rowan, Karen has harbored a huge crush on me for nine months.”
She was so much better at it than he was. He could be so damn obvious and oblivious at the same time-- obvious of his emotions to the whole world and oblivious to what he was broadcasting for the everyone to hear. She was much better, only giving in to their little inside joke now and again in front of cameras. That was the idea, wasn't it? Make Matt look like he was a puppy in love? Oh, ho ho ho, was she succeeding at it.
She had him snagged that first day, she knew it. She sauntered in, keenly aware the first impressions are everything. Her pencil skirt accented her hips and legs to perfection and her fashionable shirt from Top Shop paired with it just right. To play down the professional look of outfit a bit, she chose a low-rise heel shoe and jazzed it up with clunky jewelry. She had heard only a bit before their first reading together that this seemingly unknown Matt Smith would be playing the part of the new Doctor.
It was hard to find a picture of him on Google with him having such a generic name. And the few ones she found were a bit disheartening- some of him in a dress? About to kiss a boy on stage? There was one nice face shot of him, clearly from a few years before. Her best impressions of him were from his little stint in Secret Diary of a Call Girl. She was able to gauge his acting and his appearance. Happy with what she saw, she made sure to dress to the nines.
Since that day, she had him bagged. She saw the way his eyes lingered on her, his little flirtatious conversations he passed to her. She played back, testing her boundaries carefully, always making him the one to make the next move.
She will admit, she was the first one to give the friendly shove. He responded immediately with a playful shove back. Since then, they acted like two children in primary school- showing their affection through teasing and poking and pushes.
On camera for behind the scenes, their teasing continued, but considerably played down. Karen found Matt to be incredibly honest and open, almost to a fault when he was being interviewed. She found that endearing about him. She, on the other hand, was guarded about her responses and facial expressions, yet genuine. She wasn't a robot, but she knew how to appropriate answer questions and what was okay to say on camera. And this is how she was able to cover up any sort of assumptions of her and Matt... at least on her part.
And maybe there wasn't anything to cover up. And maybe this was a platonic friendship. And maybe there weren't any heavier feelings outside of sibling-like love. Then again, maybe not.
Her first cue to this was when he broke up with his girlfriend shortly after she dumped her boyfriend. Hm, interesting. The second was the stupid, stupid ways he would find to touch her without being friendly-abusive. More like leaning close to her as she was reviewing part of a script. Or when walking next to her, brushing her hand or nudging her shoulder. Once when she was reading her book during a break, she saw him approach her. When she looked up, she swore she caught that “I'm gona kiss you” look in his eyes. But then he broke out into his smile and asked her what this week's fiction novel was.
These little incidents she kept tally in the back of her mind. Instead of making any rash moves or pushing anything she may possibly be imaging (though she highly doubted), she decided to wait until after the hiatus for filming the Christmas special to see how he reacted towards her. Now that should be something to look forward to...
